Justin likes to make oaths, and a oath from Justin is one for life.
The quote from Justin is © Michele Scott AKA Gneiss-chert
They have been a huge inspiration to me and my own relationship with my OCs, mostly Justin, he is the most important of my channeled personas to me.
They made me aware of something called illusion of independent agency! Article here!! sta.sh/0pxbf2ne7pc READ IT!!! It's is so amazing!
This made my connection with Justin and my other OCs deeper and more meaningful. To think that I am having the same experiences as the great authors JK Rowling and JRR Tolkien!! That makes me so happy to know! I am glad to have met so many other wonderful people who have the same experiences and aren't afraid to share it, like Mistgod through Melian! I have been more willing to vocalize what Justin and my other Ocs are thinking when I read peoples comments. Some of you have been hugged or talked to! XD They have thoughts of their own like the article says!!!
Don't be afraid to ask them questions! X3

Justin would be a great guy to know in real life.
It just popped into my head in my characters voice it was rather fun!
He is full of quotable quotes! though I will have to make a list one day! =3
hug *3* i love your kind of coloration^^
*want a hug too*
*want a hug too*
Awww thank you very much!!!
*Justin gives you a hug*
Have to say this is not just good-looking but really sweet artwork ^^ Lovely thought and especially the shading is done really well there!
... I wonder what he smells like now XD
I thought this was very sweet.
Aww thank you! =3
They both needed big loving hugs!
Well, I think it turned out simply wonderful. That Justin is definitely a caring one. And I know it meant a lot to Melian.
Thank you deeply!
He is and he amazes me so. I am happy that he exists!
Yea! She is something special and has helped me so much! I had to let her know how much we appreciate her!
Absolutely! I know exactly what you mean!
I know how special Justin is to you, and Melian to MG. I'm glad to see the four of you have been able to form such a close friendship.
:iconsweethug: That is great I love it! Yes you do and I seriously need to find time to get to know your muses!
I do hope by summer! I will have to take a few weeks off from art and catch up!! ^.^
It is an amazing thing and it's all thanks to TAP and Kai!
I would of never met them or you without her. She is an amazing young girl who is going to go far in life.
Yes we most definitely should!
I've found the best way to meet cool people is simply by reading other people's comments on DA. I saw yours (and admittedly, Justin's) on Melian and TAP's pages, and I thought "Wouldn't it be fun to get to know these two?" And, of course TAP is great.
Well, I think the piece turned out great!
aww thats a really sweet saying I got to remember that.
Aww so cute!!
Oh man, I've been having that "illusion of independent agency" for a LONG time. And a lot of authors say the same thing happen to them. Doris Lessing, Nobel Prize winner and author of "The Good Terrorist" said that about her characters, and Stanlislaw Lem, author of "Solaris" also said the same thing. Heck, even Bill Watterson, who wrote Calvin and Hobbes, says that.
Good authors can channel that and make their characters more believeable and real than people who can't channel that. It's completely amazing. My characters are much more my friends than they are my pawns. XD
Your picture is really touching. I love the emotion and love that you feel in this piece. It's wonderful!
Awesome! I should of known that you would have that experience!
Oh did they? That is great to hear! I didn't know that, but then I guess I shouldn't be surprised about Bill Watterson!
It is so amazing, and you can tell what people have that relationship, the characters look and feel full of life without knowing anything about them. I felt that about yours when I first saw them.
Agreed they are the dearest of friends!
I think it was really cool to find like, legitimate research on this topic. It's something I've always felt, but never really thought about until now. That research project really hit home!
OH yes it is! I'm glad that I got to share this with you!
The fact that research was done on the topic is amazing! Validation and acceptance! I never thought much about it either and I was always to afraid to mention these experiences to anyone but my sister who shares them with me!
I thank Melian every day for finding that article!
That is so cool! It is kind of funny to think about other peoples own characters that can kind of make up their own mind or even change the author's opinions because of a sense of Independencey (is that a word?) has developed but I think I may have a minor version of that myself.
It would not be NEARLY as powerful as you who wrote over an ENTIRE BOOK on characters of your own but, myself thinking of Tolk for example as his own entity without me or my involvement is... comforting.
AWW Thanks! It is cool!!! Glad you read it and agree! Makes this easier! XD
LOL I think that is a word now and days.
AWWW yes I agree!!!
I think Tolk has become that for you. Melian believes that role players are good examples of this. The more you interact with him in that way and with other people the stronger that will be.
It took many years for my characters to get like that. Now they are all very much independent of me. I can tell which ones aren't as strong because they are quieter and I don't seem to know them as well.
Obviously Justin is very loud and independent. He thinks like a man would, and that is something women writers struggle with so I'm glad that he can act on his own. Kinda like harry potter not wanting to be a girl! I found that so interesting!
He has told me flat out no when I try to write something or push him aside to make events happen.
"Nope it's this way or no way, your making me to much of a superman!"
So I said all right Justin here is the plot and the end goal, this is how it starts, go for it!
I don't know how much I actually wrote myself which is a funny thing to say! But the story took an unexpected turn and my gosh I think its gorgeous but thats my opinion! Of course you are starting to see more and more how Justin thinks. That quote was all him. I asked what should I write here, and that is what he said.
The other day, I believe I had a daydream where Tolk was telling me to give him some privacy with his family since I just SPY on him all day.
But that sounds over the top cool! I like how it refers to how some kids with imaginary friends will actually complain that their friend is disobeying them. They have their own reasons and own lifestyle! Authors who don't write but experience their characters? How cool is that?!?!
Justin and your characters have been around with you for a while now so I can imagine some sort of bond or universe independent of itself thriving!
LOL oh Tolk! I love that! yes I would say you have that going with Tolk. I felt that way when you talked about his willingness to believe people can change and not all be so bad. And he has people doing art of him so now he has been brought to life more!
Yes that is cute! HAHA they aren't doing what I told them too! I had no idea!
It is very cool!!!!! I must say that I am never short on entertainment with them around!
Another thing I find ironic is how my sisters characters will come and bug me too. She says I write them perfectly when I show her ideas that were given to me. My characters will bug her too! XD
We say that they get to other people also because some fan art pictures had to many ironic factors that we never discussed.
Right?! The weirdest part was when "he" told me that I felt IMMENSE remorse! I felt like he shunned me out for a while, almost like he was my own rag doll before and now that he is at a point where he can be independent so he wants to be. I felt like I would not be able to draw him anymore because he would be disappointed or feel invaded... I think it might have been the first of many debates! At least I hope so. Either way I think we are on terms again.
I can't believe so many people like to draw him, it is strange and really awesome!
I read something somewhere (great source huh? It might have been on J.R.R. Tolken) that was talking about how vivid the imagination of a child can be, and how great would an adults imagination go?!? Adding logic and science can come to great effect like what Jules Vern did in his books 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and From the Earth to the Moon and Journey to the Center of the Earth. I read all of them and they are VERY scientific! Maybe a little too much though..
I believe it! Your daydreams must be quite amazing with your own cast of characters and their own scripts running through your head for you to watch and enjoy!
That is quite funny, although you are co-authors so characters would blend quite easily because they interact and they fit together in the same universe and time.
Awww wow that is deep. I hope you two are on terms you will get to an understanding! I swear that there a lure to a character once they become independent. As if that independence allows them to reach out and touch people. I want to draw him too! It's on my list of this to do!
I feel like if I get that urge to draw something it's because the character is asking to be drawn. When someone asks me to draw something and I don't feel that it comes out bad because I can't feel who they are.
Oh yes that is a grand thing! The imagination of a child + the knowledge of an adult and life experiences! I know what you mean. I was a geologist at one point so I use a lot of dumbed down geological facts to explain how Justin can do what he does with his magic in a logical manner. He has no earth powers that can't be rationally explained. Like he can't conjure earth out of thin air. For example, If he was in a room with no earth elements he would be out of luck!
My wonderful Character Sara Phoenix explained to me how magic works at length! XD
HAHA yes indeed! A fun show everyday!
Yes they are interconnected!
Agreed! When I first started drawing about a year ago I thought all my pictures would be about my main Skyrim character Tours. He was strong, powerful, skilled, just about everything you see in a hero or similar. But I haven't drawn him much because I can't connect to him! His personality is rather dull so I made Tolk and look how he turned out!
I have sometimes thought about opening commissions or requests but I don't think I would do well because I don't want to draw a character I don't know or haven't understood yet. I feel like the picture would be empty!
I watched this cool TV show a while ago called Avatar: The last Airbender and it explained its "magical" elements EXTREMELY well, and it was a show for kids! I think elements from it would work really well in your stories.
I am not trying to brag, really but I just got a beta invite for ESO this upcoming weekend and I can't stop and pay attention to other "more important" things for the life of me.
AH! That is so cool that you feel that way too!
Yes good point! I lack motivation when I don't feel it and it feels meaningless.
AH you know I liked Avatar and I failed to keep up with it!! X(
OOOO gratz! No worries I got my time in and there will be more!!!
LOL! Have fun with it!
So sweet Shelly!!!!
